TUKWILA, Wash. —The Washington State Patrol is asking any witnesses who may have seen the serious crash Friday morning in Tukwila, which killed one person, injured multiple others, and snarled traffic for hours, to come forward.
The accident unfolded on the morning of Mar. 7, when a black 2013 Toyota Highlander SUV crashed on the northbound Interstate 5 near State Route 599.

Investigators said the SUV, traveling on the ramp from northbound I-5 to northbound SR 599, struck the right-side barrier, crossed to the left, and plummeted over the side of the overpass, landing on northbound I-5.

Before the SUV fell, the driver was ejected onto the ramp. A passenger was ejected after the SUV fell over the side, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Once the Highlander landed on I-5, three additional cars became involved in a crash. Several people from these cars were taken to the hospital with injuries.
The driver who was ejected on the overpass ran away, but was arrested shortly after by a trooper and returned to the scene.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Auburn, was arrested for felony hit and run. After being medically cleared from the hospital, he was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of felony hit and run resulting in death and serious injury.The WSP is actively investigating the crash and its cause, and detectives ask that anyone who witnessed this crash or the black Toyota Highlander prior to the collision email Detective Ford at John.Ford@wsp.a.gov.
