SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and mayoral candidate Katie Wilson will go head to head in a debate on the most pressing issues facing Seattle ahead of the November general election.
In the August primary, Wilson held a lead of Harrell, garnering almost 51% of the vote to Harrell’s 43.1%.
Co-moderated by We Anchor Mimi Jung and Seattle Times City Hall reporter David Kroman, Harrell and Wilson will be pressed for open, honest answers in the one hour debate.
Harrell, the incumbent Seattle mayor, was elected in November 2021. Since then, his office has focused on issues like public safety, affordable housing and local business and worker impacts. This campaign, Harrell is focused on issues like affordable housing, community safety and reliable transportation and infrastructure. He served three terms on the Seattle City Council prior to being elected mayor. He also served as mayor for a short time after Ed Murray resigned in 2017.
Wilson is the co-founder and executive director of the Transit Riders Union (TRU). During her time leading TRU, she has focused her work on stronger renter protections, increasing worker wages and efforts to provide more affordable housing. The election is her first time running for an elected office, focusing her campaign on homelessness, affordable housing and a “Trump-proof Seattle” among others. If elected, she would become the third woman to be Seattle mayor.
The debate will broadcast live on KONG-TV, as well as streaming on digital platforms including We+ and seattlekr.com.
