PACIFIC, Wash. —Repairs to the damaged State Route 167 bridge near Pacific won’t be completed until next year, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

WSDOT engineers and inspectors finished assessing the damage to the bridge and are working on a repair strategy.

The bridge over 3rd Ave SW was damaged when it was struck by an over-height vehicle on Sept. 23. In response, two northbound lanes were closed, leaving only one northbound lane open to traffic.

The governor’s office issued an emergency proclamation late last month so WSDOT could get federal reimbursement for the cost of the repairs. An emergency proclamation was also issued for thedamaged White River Bridge.

By Oct. 17, WSDOT will:

Temporarily reopen the outside right lane and the inside left lane to traffic.

Reduce the speed limit to 45 mph.

Install a barrier to prevent traffic from entering the middle lane and merging into the inside and outside lanes.

Restrict all truck traffic to the right lane.

To make the changes, crews will need overnight closures. Dates have yet to be finalized. In the meantime, drivers should expect delays and congestion.

WSDOT said a contractor will begin repairs next month. Once construction begins, the bridge will be reduced to one lane again to make space for equipment and repair work.

Crews will also intermittently close all northbound lanes of SR 167 to replace the damaged girder. Third Ave SW will also be closed intermittently during construction. It is expected that crews will work seven days a week. The repairs are expected to be finished by early 2026, but WSDOT said it will have a more specific timeline after a contractor is selected.
