AUBURN, Wash. — After community push back in Federal Way, convicted rapist Kevin Coe will be moving to the city of Auburn.
Earlier this week, Coe was released from civil confinement last week after nearly 20 years in state custody on McNeil Island, where he had been committed as a sexually violent predator. He served 25 years in prison prior to being sent to McNeil Island.
Coe, now 78, was set to live in an adult family home in Federal Way. The King County Sheriff’s Office said the change of location was sparked by the community’s response.
“The opportunity arose for him to go to this facility in Auburn after Federal Way received some push back,” the sheriff’s office told We on Oct. 7.
According to records, Coe will reside at the Anchored By Grace adult home located in the 2900 block of 15th Street Southeast in Auburn.
The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services previously confirmed that Coe will be living at the Win Win Adult Family Home, located in the Laurelwood area of Federal Way. Neighbors were quick to raise concerns about his presence.
Coe, known as the “South Hill Rapist,” is believed to have committed around 40 rapes and sexual assaults in Spokane in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
“My kids, they come out and play,” said Anai Pena, a neighbor living near the adult family home. “One of my sisters works out sometimes late, so coming home late and having a sex offender right next door, it’s creepy.”
