LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Dozens of drivers are paying hundreds of dollars to get their cars back after parking near the new Lynnwood City Center light rail station for Wednesday’s Mariners game.
With the 1,900-space park-and-ride garage full, many fans tried their luck across the street — in what appeared to be an open lot. But county records show the property is private, and a tow company says it removed 45 vehicles overnight.
Mary’s Towing told We it was called by the property owner. The company charged about $400 per vehicle, in line with state-regulated rates — adding up to roughly $18,000 in tows in just one day.
“I’m pretty pissed! I’ve never had my car towed there before,” said Destiny, who went to a concert and returned to find her car missing.
“I was shocked. I thought at least there would be a sign,” said Mark.
Before sunrise Thursday, We visited the site and found multiple “No Parking” signs, a knocked-down fence, and erosion control barriers marking the property’s edge. County records confirm the land once held a strip mall that’s since been demolished.
Even with the warnings now visible, frustrated drivers say the area still looks like a normal parking lot — and many didn’t realize they were crossing onto private property.
With baseball postseason and football season both underway, Sound Transit and Community Transit recommend drivers use other park-and-ride lots, including Ash Way, Swamp Creek, McCollum Park, and Edmonds, or take a bus instead.
The agencies say the Lynnwood City Center garage — with nearly 1,900 total spots — can fill up fast and early on game days.
