SEATTLE — Drivers, beware.
Major freeway closures are set for this weekend in western Washington, closing several lanes of Interstate 405 and Interstate 5, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
I-5 closures
Southbound lanes of I-5 are reduced over the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3. Drivers should expect lane reductions 24 hours a day over the weekend as part of the Revive I-5 preservation project.
During the closure, crews will be cutting concrete and installing new drainage structures on the bridge’s southbound lanes.
Express lanes are only open to southbound I-5 traffic over the weekend, so northbound drivers may also see some delays.
WSDOT has planned future closures over the Ship Canal Bridge on Nov. 21-24, Dec. 5-8 and Jan. 9-12. Additional northbound I-5 lane closures will take place in 2026.
I-405 closures
Over on the Eastside, all lanes of southbound I-405 from North Southport Drive and Sunset Boulevard Northeast to state Route 167 will be closed beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Lanes will reopen by 4 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3.
In addition, up to three lanes of northbound I-405 will be closed overnight between Northeast 124th Street and Northeast 160th Street from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. The lanes will close again from 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 to 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, and again at 8 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3.
Several I-405 ramps will also be closed including the Northeast 128th Street Express Toll Lane off-ramp, the Northeast 160th Street off-ramp (Exit 22) and Northbound I-405 off-ramp to state Route 522 (Exit 23).
Weather could cancel the 405 construction and closures, but rain will not affect the I-5 lane reductions over the weekend, WSDOT said.
I-90 closures
All lanes of westbound I-90 from Mercer Island to Seattle will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 until 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
