We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to assist in the lab at Eastern State Hospital located in Medical Lake Washington. The Laboratory Technician 1 completes billing documents for reimbursement of laboratory tests and performs general clerical work to support the lab. Under general supervision performs patient blood draws, specimen processing and waived lab tests. Performs tasks necessary for CAP accreditation and maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and CMS certification. Maintains and monitors inventories and supplies including preparation of QC material and cleaning compounds. Responsible for cleanliness of laboratory including glassware. Will assist with implementation of LIS and EHR.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you will do:

• Assist with the implementation of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Electronic Health System (EHR) and perform general clerical work to support the laboratory, including completing billing documents, typing reports, filing, and entering QC.
• Perform phlebotomy on adult psychiatric patients including the Geropsychiatric Unit, Habilitative Mental Health Department, and the Forensic Services Unit.
• Use centrifuge to process specimens for each laboratory department, fill out requisitions and package specimens for reference laboratory. Perform simple, routine laboratory testing under the supervision of a Clinical/Medical Technologist, prepare QC material and cleaning compounds according to established procedures.
• Stock, order, and rotate laboratory supplies, maintain emergency draw trays on admission wards, maintain a sanitary work environment by disinfecting counters and disposing of biohazardous waste appropriately, clean glassware including volumetric pipettes, record temperatures of laboratory refrigerators and freezers, collects soiled laboratory laundry and receives clean laundry.
• Maintain current knowledge of CAP guidelines relating to laboratory accreditation and help laboratory to prepare for inspections, review and understand manuals required for lab operations.

Who should apply?
Professionals with one of the following:

• Completion of an approved course for laboratory assistants, approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, or
• Two years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience, or
• Training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences may be substituted, year for year, for the experience

And

• Must have a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification for the State of Washington or be eligible to obtain one

 Six months of phlebotomy experience is highly desired.
