About the Position

We’re excited to launch the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s Internship Program and are looking for motivated college students and recent graduates who are interested in project management, public administration, business operations, or government work to join the Project Management Office (PMO) within the Operations Division.

As an Administrative Intern I, you’ll support a newly established Project Management Office that is focused on improving how projects are planned, coordinated, and delivered across the agency. This is a great opportunity to learn how project management and organizational processes are developed and applied in a real-world public sector setting.

The PMO is in its early stages and is currently focused on building its foundation. This includes understanding how work is managed across the agency, identifying opportunities to improve consistency and coordination, and developing tools and processes to support project tracking and delivery.

In this role, you may:
 • Help track project tasks, timelines, and deliverables across multiple initiatives
 • Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and documenting meeting notes and action items
 • Organize and maintain project documentation, trackers, and shared files (e.g., SharePoint)
 • Support the development and updates of process documentation, such as SOPs, checklists, and workflows
 • Assist with compiling information to support PMO planning and reporting activities

You may also gain exposure to how a new Project Management Office is built within a government agency, including how projects are identified, organized, and supported across different teams.

This internship is a great starting point if you’re interested in careers in project management, public administration, business operations, policy work, or public service.

This recruitment may be used to establish a qualified pool of candidates for Administrative Intern I vacancies in the next sixty days.


This is a non-perm/ temporary position lasting 12 weeks, with an expected schedule of 20-25 hours per week.  


This is a Washington General Service position. The hourly range for this position is $19.64 - $23.67.

Duties

The duties of the position include but are not limited to:


  • Schedule calendars, prepare documents, and file records according to records management procedures 
  • Enter and manage data in various software systems and compile data to generate reports 
  • Answer phone calls and respond to emails as needed 
  • Gather information on insurance topics and trends and assist with basic research 
  • Analyze and compile data to support the Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s work 
  • Attend meetings, take notes, and assist with organizing meetings or events/workshops 
  • Assist with office work such as organizing files, preparing presentations, and entering data 
  • Work with staff on assigned projects related to insurance policy and regulatory work 
  • Complete assigned duties and project work in collaboration with the team

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • At least 18 years of age at the time of hire
  • Completion of at least four semesters or six quarters work (or equivalent) at an accredited* college or university

OR 

  • Recent college graduate (within 6 months of graduation) majoring in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science or a related field

AND

  • Knowledge of proper grammatical constructions and sentence/ paragraph development
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions, comprehend directives and regulations, conduct research and compile meaningful written reports
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills



Degree or course work must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent. If a degree was awarded outside the United States, candidates must provide a credential evaluation report. Proof of course work or degree will be required prior to employment.



Preferred/Desired Qualifications: 


  • Coursework or exposure to project management, change management, data analysis, or related concepts 
  • Interest in supporting development of SOPs, checklists, process maps, or other documentation tools 
  • Ability to support meeting coordination, including scheduling, preparing materials, and taking clear notes 
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or similar document management/collaboration tools 
  • Academic background in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field
