DSHS SCC Equipment Technician Supervisor

The Department of Social and Health Services' Maintenance & Operations Division is hiring for an Equipment Technician Supervisor to supervise the Transportation Department at the Special Commitment Center. This role is responsible for ensuring transportation and logistical services across McNeil Island run safely, reliably and on schedule. 

As the Equipment Technician Supervisor, you will oversee daily operations which including coordinating supply deliveries, managing office and furniture moves, and ensuring waste collection is completed across the facility. You will also support long-term planning through budgeting, equipment purchasing and replacement scheduling.

You will supervise a team that are responsible for a wide range of duties, from transporting people to delivering supplies and coordinating essential services, your team plays a critical role in supporting operations across the island. You will plan the work, assign routes and adjust quickly when needs change. You will guide staff, support safe practices and coordinate with maintenance and facility leadership. You will also oversee fleet and equipment management, including repairs, preventative maintenance and coordination across multiple locations. When issues arise, you make decisions that keep operations moving without putting safety at risk.

Please note: SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use. ?Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for anadditional5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you'll do

• Lead and supervise a team responsible for transportation, deliveries and logistical support across the facility.
• Plan, assign and adjust daily routes for transporting people, materials, supplies and equipment.
• Oversee office and furniture moves to support changing facility needs.
• Ensure daily waste collection and disposal services are completed across the site.
• Coordinate supply deliveries to support operations throughout McNeil Island.
• Ensure vehicles and equipment are inspected, maintained and meet safety and compliance standards.
• Schedule and coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance, towing and fuel card management.
• Work with vehicle coordinators across McNeil Island, Pierce County, King County and Spokane to support fleet operations.
• Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to safety practices and agency policies.
• Respond to operational issues such as delays, breakdowns or urgent service requests.
• Track vehicle and equipment usage, maintenance needs and operational activity.
• Support hiring, performance management and corrective action as part of supervising staff.

Who should apply? 

AND
At least three years* of experience as a journey-level mechanic repairing light and medium-duty vehicles, power generators, pumps, agricultural equipment or specialized marine equipment AND high school graduation / GED or equivalent.

*Trade or technical school training in appliance or related repair work may be substituted year-for-year for up to two years of the work experience. 
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

• Transportation and logistics operations: Applies knowledge of fleet coordination, deliveries and facility support services to keep operations running smoothly.
• Leadership: Supervise transportation staff by setting expectations, assigning work and ensuring accountability for safe operations.
• Safety compliance: Enforces safe practices across driving, equipment use and daily operations.
• Mechanical awareness: Recognizes equipment and vehicle issues and works with maintenance staff to ensure proper repairs and upkeep.
• Problem-solving: Resolves issues quickly to avoid disruptions to facility operations.
• Communication: Provides clear direction and coordinates effectively with staff, maintenance teams and leadership across multiple locations.
• Attention to detail: Monitors schedules, equipment readiness and service completion to ensure reliable operations.
• Coaching: Supports driver development through training, feedback and ongoing guidance.
