CONCRETE, Wash. — Mikayla Standridge vanished after making a frantic 911 call and cryptic social media post — seeming to predict her disappearance.
Mikayla, 25 at the time, was last seen April 21, 2023, running from a friend’s house toward the Skagit River at 5 a.m.
And then she was gone, but not before making a frantic cellphone call to 911 — screaming for help. The family says the phone dropped to the ground and the 911 dispatcher could hear Mikayla’s voice in the distance still yelling.
Mikayla’s family believes she may have gotten mixed up with a dangerous crowd.
Less than a week before her disappearance, Mikayla posted an unsettling message on social media reading, “If I ever go missing or anything just know I didn’t leave.”
“She was terrified of something,” said her brother Austin. “She never explained what was going on, but said she knew things. She had just surrounded herself with really bad people, and that wasn’t like her.”
“She didn’t leave on her own,” says Mardi Martone, Mikayla’s aunt. “She was taken. She was definitely taken.”
Investigators have not named a suspect or person of interest in the 900 days since Mikayla’s disappearance.
The case was stagnant until last month when campers found what appear to be Mikayla’s coat and ID card along the banks of the Skagit River, about 11 miles downriver of where she was last seen in the town of Concrete.
Authorities conducted an extensive search of the area where the new evidence was found but came up empty.
They stress there is no reason to lose hope.
Skagit County Lt. Jeff Willard says Mikayla’s case is not cold. A new detective is taking a fresh look at the investigation.
“Just because cases are old doesn’t mean they’re cold. Old cases get solved. New technology comes out, like DNA,” Willard said. “We’re constantly looking at them for new leads.”
The family is offering a reward of more than $10,000 for information that locates Mikayla.
Anyone with information should call 911.
Mikayla’s brother, Austin, says he just wants his best friend back, or at least to know she’s OK. Her aunt says Mikayla’s now 5-year-old son needs his mom.
“We just want to know where our Mikayla is,” she said.
