LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — All lanes of eastbound U.S. Highway 2 near the junction with state Route 204 reopened Wednesday morning after a crash prompted an hours-long road closure.
A suspected intoxicated driver fled a state trooper and crashed into two other vehicles, closing US 2 for hours late Tuesday night. The road reopened around 1 a.m.
Just before 8 p.m., a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving, Washington State Patrol spokesperson Kelsey Harding said. The driver fled, causing a three-car collision. After the crash, the suspect reportedly climbed over a concrete barrier and tried to run before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The driver was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Four other people involved in the crash, including two children, were taken for treatment as a precaution.
The closure caused backups stretching to Interstate 5. Emergency crews were on scene and traffic was being detoured to Homeacres Road.
The suspect was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, felony eluding, obstruction and hit and run.
