RENTON, Wash. — Kat Lieu, of Renton, loves baking and sharing her passion with others.
Her love for kitchen creativity was born during the pandemic when many people “needed and craved community.”
Lieu’s recipes went from social media pages and groups to printed pages in what is now her third published cookbook, 108 Asian Cookies.
“It’s a cultural milestone,” Lieu said.
The baker, now known for her work and the launch of Modern Asian Baking, started out as a doctor of physical therapy.”It’s so colorful, but it’s not using food coloring,” Lieu said.

Lieu expressed the importance of supporting different cultural cuisines and keeping an open mind to flavors and ingredients.
“Just spread the word of Asian voices. Buy the book. Make the recipes,” Lieu said. “Don’t yuck the yum.”
When Lieu discusses a flavor like fish sauce being used in baking, she said it’s easy for someone to make fun of that or “knock it” before even tasting it.
“Many flavors are overlooked,” Lieu said.
