SEATTLE — Though it will be a Monday day game, the Mariners still plan to host a watch party for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series in Toronto.
The Mariners went on the road and shut down the Blue Jays’ bats en route to a 3-1 victory in Game 1 on Sunday night. Plenty of fans were on hand at T-Mobile Park on Sunday to take in the Mariners’ first ALCS game in almost a quarter century.
“I wanted to feel the environment. I wanted to feel the fans so much more than sitting at home and watching it, you know,” Mariners fan Peter Johns told We after joining fans in Seattle to take in Game 1 on the big screen. “I was probably like middle school, high school, a kid, the last time this happened. So it’s just amazing.”
After Monday’s watch party, Wednesday will bring the real thing to T-Mobile Park. Game 3 of the ALCS is set for 5:08 p.m. PT, with Games 4 and 5 to follow on Thursday and Friday.
Logan Gilbert will get the start in Game 2, after being among the 15 pitchers who threw in the marathon Game 5 win against the Detroit Tigers in the Division Series. Gilbert also got the start in Game 3 of the ALDS, going six innings while only allowing a single run to score.
