SEATTLE — Three years ago, the beautiful sights and scents of “pan de dulce,” Mexican pastries from Bakescapade, popped up in the Pacific Northwest.
The pop-up style bakery based in the Seattle area was co-founded in October 2022 by Karen Sandoval and Cesar Martinez.
Bakescapade focuses on sharing Mexican culture through authentic flavors and also innovative creations that still have a tie to the culture.
“It’s something we wanted to share with our community,” Martinez said.
The “pan de muerto” (Day of the Dead bread) has a touch of orange zest and anise.
Bakescapade is part of the special grand opening of Café Calaveras, 860 Yesler Way in Seattle, on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Fiesta Con Amor at Café Calaveras runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Along with Bakescapade pastries, there will be several special things happening for Día de los Muertos, including a community altar, or “ofrenda.”
Bakescapade is featuring a special Día de los Muertos flight during Seattle Restaurant Week, featuring Guayaba Matcha Latte and Café de Olla.
“It’s a way to connect to my roots and bring it back to the Pacific Northwest,” Sandoval said.
