SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Skyline High School’s head football coach has been reinstated after a district investigation, according to the Issaquah School District.
“Following the Issaquah School District’s review of recent allegations and expectations while they are addressed, Skyline High School Head Football Coach Peyton Pelluer has been reinstated to his coaching duties,” the district said on Oct. 21.
The district’s statement, in part, said “all allegations deserve a thorough review to maintain consistency and ensure compliance with district regulations.” District officials did not elaborate on the basis of the investigation or the allegations.
“Head Coach Peyton Pelluer, and the entire coaching staff, are 100% focused on ensuring a safe, positive experience for his student-athletes as he prepares for this Friday’s game, celebrates Skyline’s seniors at Senior Night, and looks ahead to the upcoming playoff games,” the statement read.
When asked for further information about what prompted the investigation, the Issaquah School District declined to provide any details.
Last Friday, players, other coaches and families were stunned to learn head coach Pelluer – who has won back-to-back state titles – had been “temporarily relieved of his duties.” The district announced the staffing update just hours before Skyline faced Woodinville.
Skyline’s coaching staff protested the district’s actions. Assistant coach Gino Simone said the coaches would not return to the sidelines until Pelluer was reinstated.
“We, the coaching staff of Skyline High School Football, are writing to express our complete and unwavering support for Head Coach Peyton Pelluer — a man whose character, leadership, and commitment to this program stand beyond reproach,” Simone said in a social media post.
Simone said the coaching staff believe the district’s suspension “sets a deeply troubling precedent — one that allows personal grievances and subjective dissatisfaction to override coaching integrity, player accountability, and the competitive principles that define high school athletics.”
Pelluer will return to the sidelines as Skyline faces Mount Si on Friday, Oct. 24.
