SEATTLE —An injured man showed up at Harborview after accidentally shooting himself in the leg near a south Seattle park.
Seattle police officers were called to the scene on Sunday around 9:13 p.m. for a report of gunshots in the area.
They arrived on Waters Avenue South near Lakeridge Park and searched the area, but found no evidence of a shooting.
Shortly after, a man in a private vehicle arrived at Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. He’d been shot in the leg.
The man was interviewed by Seattle Police Department (SPD) Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives. They learned the man had met with at least one other person to test-fire their guns in the woods. During the test-firing, the man accidentally shot himself in the leg with one of the guns.
The driver who brought him to the hospital wasn’t with the victim during the shooting, but police impounded his car to be searched for evidence.Anyone with more information is asked to call the SPD Non-Emergency Line at 206-625-5011.
