KENT, Wash. —A Kent restaurant owner and his wife have been arrested following allegations of purchasing and selling stolen high-end liquor.
The Golden Steer Restaurant in Kent was closed after a tip-off led to a two-month undercover operation by Kent police in collaboration withFred Meyer.
Assistant Police Chief Jarod Kasner alleges that the couple, a 33-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were actively soliciting stolen alcohol to further their business.
“They were actually asking folks if they could get more alcohol, they would definitely buy it,” Kasner said.
The investigation uncovered a pattern of behavior where stolen products were used by the business, according to police.
Police confiscated boxes of Hennessy, Tito’s Vodka, and cases of beer.
The couple faces eight counts of criminal solicitation, possession of stolen property, and buying liquor illegally.
Kasner emphasized the importance of community partnerships in tackling such crimes, stating, “These days, the police recognize it takes the community. And it takes resources and it takes relationships.”
Local resident Lamont Williams praised the police efforts, “Everyone should understand in an economy like this, everything we do impacts the other person.”
Meanwhile, Dennis, who had dined at the Golden Steer in the past, but not recently, expressed frustration over rising crime and business closures in Kent, noting that the Fred Meyer involved in the operation recently shut down. “That’s just creating more crime,” Dennis said, highlighting the economic impact on the community.
Dennis was visiting a nearby business and noticed the restaurant was closed.
Police have posted that the establishment is closed, and a hand-written sign on the door says so as well. The restaurant is closed because, during the investigation, police determined it was allegedly operating without a business license.
