KENT, Wash — Kent police detectives are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead following a shooting at an apartment complex Sunday evening.

Kent officers responded to the 6000 block of South 233rd Place Sunday evening after receiving 911 calls reporting gunfire. Officials said callers reported they heard shots and saw a man lying in the parking lot.

Officers arrived with medics and Puget Sound Fire. The victim, a 26-year-old Kent man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found a loaded 9mm handgun near the victim. The firearm was later confirmed to be registered to the deceased.

Officials said dispatch notified them that two gunshot victims, both 23 years old, had arrived at Valley Medical Center around 40 minutes after responding to the call. Detectives are investigating whether these incidents are connected. The status of the two patients remains unknown.

Kent police detectives have taken over the investigation and are investigating the shooting as a homicide. Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the Kent Police Department.
