Salary Range:  $24.54 - $32.82/hour

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for position of a fulltime Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) Health Service Department located in Walla Walla, WA. The CNA supports the Department's mission to improve public safety by delivering and leading others in the delivery of nursing services that promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjusting to various health conditions.  

This position supports the mission of the Health Services Division by providing necessary, comprehensive, quality health services and to promote wellness in preparation for the return to the community.

Duties

  • Under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Nursing Assistant Certified delivers services to promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions.  Health services are provided to individual patients, groups of patients, the staff employed at the correctional facility, and to the public at large.  The Nursing assistant Certified supports the agency mission and vision by assisting in the implementation of nursing process.
  • Use tools, techniques, physical and cognitive skills, and abilities to practice as a Nursing Assistant safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice as defined by State Law and Administrative Code so that patient care provided is safe, effective, efficient, and clinically appropriate.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Medical Practitioner in analysis and evaluation of the structure, process and time frames for service delivery, the expected effects of treatment or intervention and the outcomes to be achieved.
     Ensures that they are in attendance, capable and competent to practice as a nursing assistant Certified as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively verbally, in writing, and via computer or other electronic media with offender, their families, o other health care personnel, custody and other institutional personnel so that information is solicited to identify problems and develop solutions, that plans to deliver care are implemented by self and others and revised as necessary resulting in safe, timely, and clinically appropriate service provision.
  • Establishes therapeutic relationships that preserve professional boundaries with patient and their families to teach and assist them to reduce health risks, improve their ability to provide self-care, manage symptoms and side effects, to participate in prescribed treatment regimens, and to make informed decisions about health care and treatment.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, maintain positive and professional working relationships, remain calm and act professionally during all emergent conditions with the ability to recall detailed instructions, and maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, and work collaborate with diverse group of staff and offenders.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Initial and continuous unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Certified by the American Heart Association in Emergency First Response.
  • Also must exhibit knowledge, skills and ability to perform nursing assistant activities.  
  • Participates in the evaluation of competency in nursing assistant practice as requested by the Employer.
  • Able to use the computer to enter, schedule, monitor and track patient information, word process and communicate via email.

  • Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire.   • Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds. Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds.
