In my previous role as a Community Corrections Officer 1, I was responsible for collecting and analyzing data on offender behavior and treatment outcomes. I used Excel to track offender attendance and participation in programs, and then analyzed the data to identify trends and areas for improvement. For example, I noticed that offenders who attended more frequent meetings with their probation officer were less likely to recidivate. I presented my findings to our team and we implemented changes to our case management practices as a result. I believe this experience has prepared me well for this role, where I will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data on program effectiveness and making recommendations for improvement.

When developing a risk assessment tool, I would first conduct a thorough review of existing literature and research on offender recidivism. I would also consult with subject matter experts in the field, including psychologists and criminologists. Next, I would design a comprehensive tool that incorporates multiple factors, such as prior convictions, substance abuse history, and employment status. I would use a combination of quantitative and qualitative data to inform my assessment, and ensure that the tool is regularly updated and validated to reflect changes in offender behavior and community needs.

In my previous role, I supervised groups of offenders participating in substance abuse treatment programs. I ensured that all participants were engaged and actively participating in the discussion, and provided guidance and support as needed. I also worked closely with the program facilitators to ensure that the sessions were running smoothly and that any issues or concerns were addressed promptly. One example that stands out was when a participant became agitated during a session, I stepped in to de-escalate the situation and ensured that the individual received the necessary support. The group continued on without further incident, and the participant was able to complete their treatment program successfully.
