Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: How would you ensure continuous quality improvement in delivering services to over 28,000 DDA clients across six counties?

To ensure continuous quality improvement, I would establish a regional Quality Improvement Committee comprising representatives from each county and key stakeholders. This committee would review data on client outcomes, satisfaction surveys, and incident reports to identify areas for improvement. We would also conduct regular site visits to observe service delivery firsthand and provide feedback to frontline staff. Additionally, I would encourage the use of quality improvement tools such as Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles to test and implement evidence-based practices. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, we can ensure that our services are responsive to the evolving needs of our clients.

Question 2: How would you handle a budget variance of $1 million in a regional operation with a budget of over $51 million?

To address a budget variance of this magnitude, I would first conduct a thorough analysis to understand the root cause of the variance. This might involve reviewing financial reports, speaking with staff, and examining programmatic data to identify areas where costs have exceeded projections. Once I have a clear understanding of the issue, I would develop a corrective action plan that prioritizes cost-saving strategies such as renegotiating contracts, streamlining processes, or realigning resources. I would also communicate transparently with stakeholders about the variance, the steps we are taking to address it, and the impact on our clients. By being proactive and engaging staff in problem-solving, we can ensure that our budget is managed effectively and efficiently.

Question 3: How do you foster collaboration among partner agencies, Tribal nations, service providers, and community-based organizations to achieve shared goals?

To foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders, I would establish a Regional Partnerships Committee to facilitate dialogue and coordination. This committee would comprise representatives from key partner agencies, Tribal nations, and community-based organizations, as well as DSHS staff. We would work together to identify shared goals, priorities, and objectives, and develop strategies for achieving them collaboratively. I would also ensure that all stakeholders have a seat at the table through regular meetings, email updates, and targeted outreach efforts. By building trust, sharing data, and co-creating solutions, we can leverage each other's strengths and expertise to deliver services more effectively and efficiently.
