Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: What is your approach when conducting comprehensive assessments of customer needs to identify disability-related barriers to employment that require VR services?

When conducting comprehensive assessments of customer needs, I take a collaborative and individualized approach. I use a combination of standardized assessment tools and clinical judgment to gather information about the customer's strengths, abilities, and challenges. This includes reviewing their medical history, educational background, work experience, and any relevant documentation or reports. I also engage in active listening and ask open-ended questions to gain a deeper understanding of the customer's needs, goals, and barriers to employment. Once I have gathered all relevant information, I synthesize the data and provide clear and concise feedback to the customer, highlighting areas where VR services may be beneficial. My goal is to empower the customer with knowledge and understanding of their strengths and challenges, enabling them to make informed decisions about their vocational goals.

Question 2: How would you develop an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) that takes into account a customer's unique needs, barriers, and employment goals?

To develop an effective IPE, I would engage in a collaborative process with the customer to identify their strengths, abilities, and challenges. This involves reviewing relevant assessment data, discussing their career aspirations and interests, and exploring potential job opportunities that align with their skills and qualifications. I would also take into account any disability-related barriers to employment, such as physical or cognitive limitations, and develop strategies to address these obstacles. In collaboration with the customer, we would set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for vocational development and employment, as well as identify resources and services needed to achieve those goals. Throughout the planning process, I would ensure that the customer is fully informed and empowered to take ownership of their vocational rehabilitation plan.

Question 3: Can you describe a scenario where you had to arrange and interpret results of diagnostic testing and other vocational rehabilitation assessment tools for a customer?

One scenario that comes to mind is when I worked with a customer who was seeking employment as a skilled tradesperson but had a history of repetitive strain injuries. To determine the feasibility of this career goal, we arranged for an ergonomic evaluation and physical demands analysis (PDA) to assess her ability to perform the tasks required in the job. The results indicated that she would need to develop strategies to manage her pain levels and adapt to specific work-related accommodations. I worked with the customer to interpret these findings and explore potential solutions, such as modifying equipment or changing work habits. Based on this information, we developed an IPE that included training and rehabilitation services to help her build the skills and physical stamina needed for success in this field.
