Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: How would you maintain floors to include sweeping, wet/dry mopping, buffing, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, and disinfecting in a hospital setting?

I understand the importance of maintaining a clean environment in a hospital setting. To address your question, I would start by assessing the floor type and determining the best cleaning method for each area. For example, areas with heavy foot traffic may require more frequent sweeping and mopping. I would also ensure that all necessary equipment is available and in good working condition, such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners. Additionally, I would make sure to follow proper safety protocols when using chemicals and cleaning agents, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following manufacturer instructions. Regular maintenance of floors would include stripping and sealing to prevent dirt and stains from accumulating, and waxing to provide a smooth surface for easy cleaning. Finally, I would regularly inspect floors for signs of wear or damage and report any issues to management promptly.

Question 2: How would you ensure that all custodial equipment is properly cleaned and maintained?

I believe it's essential to maintain clean and well-maintained custodial equipment to prevent the spread of germs and infections. To answer your question, I would establish a routine for cleaning and maintaining custodial equipment, including mops, buckets, buffers, and vacuum cleaners. This would involve regularly inspecting equipment for wear or damage, cleaning equipment after each use with soap and water, and storing equipment in designated areas to prevent damage or tampering. Additionally, I would ensure that all equipment is properly disinfected and sanitized on a regular basis, following manufacturer instructions and safety protocols. I would also make sure to report any issues or concerns regarding equipment maintenance to management promptly.

Question 3: How would you handle a situation where you encounter hazardous materials or substances during cleaning?

I understand the importance of handling hazardous materials safely in a hospital setting. To address your question, I would first refer to the hospital's safety protocols and procedures for handling hazardous materials. If I were unsure about how to handle a particular substance, I would immediately contact my supervisor or facility management for guidance. When encountering hazardous materials, I would ensure that all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn, including gloves, masks, and eye protection. I would then carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions for handling and disposing of the material, taking care to avoid spills or leaks. Finally, I would report any incidents involving hazardous materials to management promptly and participate in any required training or education to ensure my knowledge and skills are up-to-date.
