Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: What steps would you take to identify and correct a faulty electrical system on-site at Western State Hospital?

To identify a faulty electrical system, I would first conduct a visual inspection of the equipment and wiring to look for signs of wear or damage. Next, I would use a multimeter to check for any voltage drops or other anomalies in the system. If I suspected a more serious issue, such as a short circuit or electrical shock hazard, I would immediately shut down the system and consult with my supervisor before proceeding. To correct the faulty system, I would follow all relevant safety protocols and procedures to ensure that the repair is done safely and efficiently. This may involve ordering replacement parts or consulting with other tradespeople as needed.

Question 2: How do you stay up-to-date on changes in electrical codes and regulations, and how would you apply this knowledge in a real-world scenario?

I regularly check the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries website for updates to electrical codes and regulations. I also make sure to attend training sessions and workshops offered by trade organizations, such as the International Association of Electrical Inspectors. In a real-world scenario, if I were tasked with installing new wiring in an existing building, I would first check with local authorities to ensure that my work complies with all relevant codes and regulations. If there were any discrepancies or conflicts between different code requirements, I would consult with other electricians or electrical inspectors to ensure that the job is done correctly.

Question 3: You've been tasked with rewinding a motor on-site at Western State Hospital. The motor has been out of commission for several hours due to a malfunction. How do you prioritize your work and ensure that the repair is completed efficiently?

First, I would assess the situation and determine the severity of the malfunction. If it's a critical piece of equipment, such as an air conditioner or a water pump, I would prioritize getting it back online as quickly as possible. To rewind the motor, I would first take apart the existing windings and inspect them for any signs of wear or damage. Next, I would order the necessary replacement parts, including new wire and bearings. Once I have all the necessary materials, I would begin rewinding the motor according to established procedures and manufacturer instructions. Throughout the process, I would communicate regularly with my supervisor and other team members to ensure that everyone is aware of any potential delays or issues.
