Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: How would you troubleshoot and repair a complex electrical motor control system, such as a PLC-controlled pump for domestic water supply?

To troubleshoot and repair a complex electrical motor control system like a PLC-controlled pump for domestic water supply, I would first review the system's documentation, including the electrical drawings and schematics. Next, I would perform a thorough visual inspection of the system to identify any obvious issues or signs of wear. If the issue is not immediately apparent, I would use diagnostic equipment such as a multimeter or oscilloscope to measure voltage, current, and other parameters. Based on my findings, I would then isolate the problem area and use troubleshooting procedures specific to the type of PLC used to identify the root cause of the issue. Once identified, I would perform repairs using the manufacturer's recommended procedures and follow all safety protocols to ensure safe operation of the system. Additionally, I would also document the repair process, including any changes made to the system, for future reference.

Question 2: You are tasked with estimating the time and material required for a project that involves installing new communication systems, including telephone and computer networks, CCTV, and fiber optic cables. How would you approach this task?

To estimate the time and material required for the project, I would first review the system design and specifications to understand the scope of work involved. Next, I would break down the project into smaller tasks, such as cable pulling, equipment installation, and testing. Based on my experience and knowledge of similar projects, I would then estimate the time required for each task, including any contingencies for unexpected issues or delays. To determine material requirements, I would review the specifications to ensure that all necessary components are accounted for and calculate the quantity needed. Finally, I would use a software tool or spreadsheet to create an estimate document detailing the scope of work, estimated costs, and timelines for completion.

Question 3: A patient care equipment system is not functioning properly, and you need to troubleshoot the issue. What steps would you take?

To troubleshoot a malfunctioning patient care equipment system, I would first review the system's documentation, including user manuals and electrical drawings, to understand its operation and potential failure modes. Next, I would perform a visual inspection of the system to identify any obvious issues or signs of wear. If the issue is not immediately apparent, I would use diagnostic equipment such as a multimeter or oscilloscope to measure voltage, current, and other parameters. Based on my findings, I would then isolate the problem area and use troubleshooting procedures specific to the type of patient care equipment used to identify the root cause of the issue. Additionally, I would also review system logs and maintenance records for any recent issues or repairs that may be related to the current malfunction. Once identified, I would perform repairs using the manufacturer's recommended procedures and follow all safety protocols to ensure safe operation of the system.
