Sample Interview Questions and Answers

Question 1: Describe your experience with supervision principles and behavior support techniques in a residential habilitation setting.

In my previous role as an Attendant Counselor Manager at XYZ Residential Habilitation Center, I was responsible for supervising a team of Attendant Counselors who provided direct care to individuals with intellectual disabilities. To ensure the best possible outcomes, we implemented a behavior support plan that focused on positive reinforcement and skill acquisition strategies. This involved regular training sessions, one-on-one coaching, and ongoing evaluation of individual progress. I also worked closely with our interdisciplinary team to develop and implement personalized client plans that addressed each resident's unique needs and goals. Through this experience, I developed strong skills in identifying and addressing challenging behaviors, creating effective behavior support plans, and providing clear direction to subordinate staff.

Question 2: How would you conduct a performance evaluation for an Attendant Counselor, and what key areas would you assess?

When conducting a performance evaluation for an Attendant Counselor, I would start by reviewing the individual's job description and ensuring they understand their responsibilities and expectations. Next, I would gather feedback from colleagues, supervisors, and clients to identify strengths and areas for improvement. During the evaluation meeting, I would clearly communicate my observations and provide specific examples of successes and challenges. Key areas I would assess include: direct care skills, such as providing assistance with daily living tasks; communication skills, including verbal and written documentation; teamwork and collaboration with other staff members; client-centered care, focusing on individualized support and resident-directed activities; and overall job performance, including punctuality, attendance, and adaptability. By using a structured evaluation process, I believe we can provide constructive feedback and identify opportunities for growth and development.

Question 3: Describe your experience with electronic health records (EHRs) in a residential habilitation setting, and how you ensure accurate and timely documentation.

In my previous role as an Attendant Counselor Manager at ABC Residential Habilitation Center, I was responsible for using our EHR system to document client care and activities. To ensure accurate and timely documentation, I developed a routine of regularly reviewing the system to stay up-to-date on resident information, treatment plans, and medication management. When documenting client interactions or incidents, I would strive to provide clear and concise descriptions of events, including date, time, and details of what occurred. I also made sure to review all documentation for accuracy and completeness before submitting it to our supervisors or other stakeholders. Through this experience, I became proficient in navigating the EHR system, accurately documenting client care, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
