PHYSICAL THERAPIST 2- (WSP)

Description

The Department of Corrections Health Services Division is seeking a highly motivated and qualified professional to take on the dynamic role of Physical Therapist 2 for the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) located in Walla Walla, Washington.

Under the supervision of the Facility Medical Director, this position contributes to the agency’s mission to improve public safety by delivering quality health care to the incarcerated patient population in a timely and professional manner, promote a healthy lifestyle and provide patient heath care education.

This position performs physical therapy and restorative care services, including initial assessments, planning, and administration of treatment modalities for patients with injuries, illnesses and other debilitating conditions as prescribed by a prescribing provider. The licensed therapist may coordinate/instruct/assign/oversee Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) to assist with ADL exercises for patients requiring restorative care. The Physical Therapist is responsible for writing evaluative reports, chart appropriate findings in the patients’ medical records, and work in tandem with other medical staff to ensure patients receive appropriate care in a timely fashion and reach an acceptable level of functionality in relation to their level of disability.

Duties

Duty:
Provide physical therapy and restorative care services:

• Assess, evaluate, plan and administer treatment modalities for patients with injuries, illnesses and other debilitating conditions as prescribed by a prescribing provider.
• Follow and adhere to the WA DOC Health plan and discipline standards of care.
• Evaluate and determine efficacy and length of treatment needed.
• Work with medical staff (CNA, MA’s etc) to ensure recommended or ordered restorative exercises are done appropriately and consistently for patients in Inpatient Units.
• Oversee CNA’s that work directly with patients in achieving mobility goals, when applicable
• Assess patients and provide physical therapy services at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) including Sage View Special Needs Unit as needed, but no more than 2 days per week.

Unit Management; Equipment/Supplies Inventory:

• Maintains equipment inventories using specified data used for control and replacement.
• Works with medical, MH and custody staff to maintain incarcerated individual issue and sign-out sheets for equipment.
• Inspects and maintains the PT equipment in good working order.
  1. Requests and arranges service, parts, and labor from contracted service company or reputable vendors.

Charting & Record-keeping:

• Utilize our electronic systems to account for patient contact.
• Ensure chart documentation and/or dictations are completed timely.

Other Duties as Assigned

Note:  Travel between institutions is expected. This position may work up to 2 days at Coyote Ridge Corrections Centers (CRCC) during the work week.
Other travel between administrative offices for meetings, surveys, training, or emergency staffing may occur.
Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Subject to callback in the event of an emergency and is subject to assignment in any area of the institution.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• One year as a Physical Therapist OR Equivalent education/experience.
• Current Washington State License to practice as a Physical Therapist. 
•  Experience working in a health services environment and knowledge of medical terminology.
